Women Business Travelers on the Rise

Women Business Travelers on the Rise

Women are the fastest-growing segment among business travelers and account for nearly half of all business travel in the United States. According to Skift Travel IQ, “Women are high-tech, mobile, connected, and social. They like to book on the move and represent 58% of online sales.” Women control 60% of the wealth in the U.S. and influence 85% of all purchasing decisions.

As more women travel alone for business, companies from hotels to airlines are making their offerings more female-friendly. With some good judgment and preparation, female business travelers can significantly reduce their chances of unforeseen issues and heighten their travel experience.

Below are some tips to make business travel run more smoothly and safely.

Book a Reputable Hotel – Some hotel companies are offering female-friendly accommodations that include personal comfort and safety. Kimpton Hotels & Restaurant and Hyatt Hotels Corp. have already launched female-friendly programs that cater specifically toward women travelers.

Use these safety tips to ensure your hotel stay is safe: Travel-Safety-Tips-for-Women-Business-Travelers-5-620x410

  • Check for hotels that offer women-only floors
  • Entrances and hotel floors should be well lit
  • Rooms should be secure with at least two independent locks
  • The reception area should be manned 24 hours
  • Doorways should be under video surveillance
  • Late-night room service delivered by female staff
  • Room-key activated elevators

Schedule the Right Flight – Many airlines offer amenities that cater to the female traveler.  Embraer SA is highlighting privacy and aesthetics as it pitches its corporate jets to more female executives. Boeing Co. is designing its planes to give female business travelers more seclusion and features lower overhead luggage bins for easy accessibility.

Pack Lightly – If you need to be dressed in business attire for a same-day meeting, wear it on the plane. Always assume your luggage may be lost and be prepared. Use a “Checkpoint Friendly” laptop bag that Busy-Business-Traveler-Appsallows you to leave electronics in the case while you go through security which reduces time.

Loyalty Programs– Sign up with airlines, hotels and chauffeured transportation services that offer memberships or reward programs. The perks are great!

Travel Documents – Keep your I.D., passport, and ticket in a safe place and easily accessible. Print boarding passes ahead of time.

Transportation – Arrange for a reputable, reliable and professional limousine service. This will provide a shorter wait-time than renting a car or taxi. To ensure the “Duty of Care” for the safety of travelers on the ground, look for limousine companies who conduct background checks on chauffeurs, mandate defensive-driving and safety programs, and perform regular vehicle safety and inspection regimens. Check to be certain the limousine company is registered with their state, has the proper levels of insurance and are properly licensed.

Confirmations & Trip Alerts – Many limousine and car services provide automated email and/or text message confirmations with detailed trip information and a second one 24 hours prior to the pick-up time. In addition, companies may offer Trip Alerts. This provides the chauffeur’s status, i.e. chauffeur has been dispatched, en-route to pick up, on location and client dropped off. Alerts can be sent to family members or office associates for peace-of-mind.

Women business travelers are on the rise and with some research and early preparation, they can travel safely and stress-free before, during and after their trip.
